Chip Uniformity Ahead of the Flaker: How a Drum Wood Chipper Machine Holds Particleboard Core Density and Bond Strength on Mixed Log, Slab and Offcut Infeed
A particleboard or MDF plant intake mixes small-diameter logs, slab wood, sawdust, shavings and offcuts, and it carries nails, staples and grit. This page follows that intake through the first cutting stage on a drum wood chipper machine: the X-215, X-216 and X-218 drum type wood chipper at 45, 55 and 110 kW covering 4 to 5, 6 to 8 and 8 to 12 tonnes per hour, cutting a first-stage chip of roughly 30 to 35 mm for the flaking stage that makes the board-core particle. Two limits are stated plainly: no metal separation device is listed in the Shred parameter table, so nail and stone bearing material must be magnetically separated and destoned upstream, and the chipper feeds the flaking stage rather than replacing it.
