Replacing Sun-Drying and Hand-Built Drum Dryers on Small Organic Fertilizer Lines: How a DRYR Standardized Sawdust Dryer Closes the Batch-Variance Loop With Assembled Structure and PLC Control

Sawdust Dryer for Small Organic Fertilizer Lines

Why by-feel drying locks the small organic fertilizer line into batch variation

On small and mid-scale organic fertilizer lines in emerging markets, the drying stage still runs on operator experience: open-yard sun drying, hand-welded low-end rotary drums, and moisture readings done by hand-squeeze. The result is 8 to 15 point batch swings, repeated hot stops, and a dryer that becomes the line bottleneck instead of a stable supply guarantee. A DRYR standardized sawdust dryer replaces the experience-driven stage with a continuous rotary drum, a bolted-flange assembled structure, and PLC-logged moisture control, so the same plant moves from by-feel drying to binding-window drying on the 0.8 to 2 t/h H-1010 to H-1815 range.

What a DRYR standardized sawdust dryer changes at the dryer stage

A DRYR standardized sawdust dryer is built on the same manufacturing base as a press line, not a yard fabrication. The drum is rolled and flanged in a workshop, the lifting flights are jigs to length and angle, and the shell roundness, run-out, and flange flatness are measured before shipment. Sections bolt together on site through standardized flanges, so a single damaged segment can be unbolted and replaced without cutting the shell and re-welding. The self-insulation shell holds the working temperature on the 0.8 to 2 t/h H-1010 to H-1815 platform, the multi-fuel hot air furnace takes coal, biomass powder, natural gas, or oil on the same burner, and the screw conveyor, blower, and cyclone dust collector interface through documented ports. The shift is structural: a continuous rotary drum instead of a yard, a workshop-built shell instead of a hand-welded one, and a replaceable segment instead of a one-piece welded tube.

Inside the assembled drum and the PLC loop that closes the batch-variance loop

The H-1010 to H-1815 range covers drum diameters from 1000 to 1800 mm, with main motors from 4 to 11 kW, induced-draft blowers from 7.5 to 15 kW, and continuous throughputs from 0.8 to 2 tonnes per hour. The drum runs on an external girth gear and pinion with a gearbox and electric motor, supported on steel saddles and tires. Inside the drum, combined lifting flights lift the sawdust, straw, or composted organic into the hot air stream and drop it through the gas curtain as the shell rotates, which is the heat exchange step a yard furnace or a low-end hand-welded drum cannot replicate. The front chute takes the wet feed from the screw conveyor, the back end connects to a cyclone dust collector and optional baghouse through ducting, and the control cabinet logs drum temperature, hot air temperature, and induced-draft pressure. With PLC control, the operator sets the binding window, watches the trend on the HMI, and stops chasing the dryer by hand.

Result on the small organic fertilizer line: 8 to 10 percent binding moisture, 0.8 to 2 t/h, no experience dependency

On a small organic fertilizer line running sawdust, straw, and composted organic, the DRYR standardized sawdust dryer holds output moisture in the 8 to 10 percent binding window that the disc or drum granulator downstream needs to hit the 20 to 25 percent wet granulation recipe. Capacity lines up to the 0.8 to 2 t/h that the granulator and the screening loop are sized for, so the dryer is no longer the choke point of the shift. The 4 kW to 11 kW main motor and 7.5 to 15 kW blower are matched to the drum, not to whatever happened to be wired into the yard. PLC logging gives QA a moisture record instead of a hand-squeeze note, and the assembled, bolted-flange drum can be split-shipped in 40HQ containers and reassembled on site at an inland plant. The experience-based bottleneck that used to define the small organic fertilizer line is replaced by a standardized machine the line can actually plan around.

  • Standardized precision manufacturing replaces hand-welded low-end drums on small organic fertilizer lines
  • Bolted-flange assembled structure with replaceable drum sections, not a single welded shell
  • PLC logged drum and hot air temperature replace operator hand-squeeze moisture reading and weather-tied sun drying
  • Continuous rotary sawdust dryer holds 8 to 10 percent binding moisture at 0.8 to 2 t per hour on the H-1010 to H-1815 range
