A client in Saudi Arabia required a durable and reliable logistics solution for transporting heavy, palletized loads of bottled water. To meet this need, a comprehensive molded pallet production line was designed, capable of manufacturing high-strength pallets tailored specifically to the client’s application. This case study details the project’s requirements, the custom product design, and the engineered equipment solution.
Project Analysis and Client Requirements
The primary goal was to establish a local production facility for high-load capacity molded pallets. A thorough analysis identified the following key project parameters:
- Application: The pallets were to be used exclusively for the packaging and transport of barrelled water products.
- Pallet Specifications: The required pallet dimensions were 1200 x 1000 x 160mm, with a dynamic load capacity of 1500kg.
- Production Capacity: The target output was 10,000 pallets per month, averaging approximately 350 pallets per day.
- Adhesive Recommendation: For environmental and worker safety, formaldehyde-free MDI glue was recommended.
The Engineered Production Line: Equipment Configuration
To meet the production target, the proposed line consists of three 1250-ton hydraulic presses and the necessary preparation equipment, including a top-tier compressed wood pallet machine.
| Stage | Equipment | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Raw Material Preparation | Wood Chipper, Wood Crusher, Dryer | Initial size reduction, refining into fine fibers, and drying to optimal moisture content. |
| 2. Mixing and Molding | Glue Mixer, Hydraulic Press, Mold Temperature Machine | Ensuring a consistent blend of fiber and glue, molding the pallets, and maintaining precise mold temperature for curing. |
Custom Mold Design for Heavy-Duty Use
To handle the significant weight of bottled water, a custom mold was engineered. The final design was a flat-top, 9-point single-face molded pallet. This design offers even load support, structural integrity with reinforced ribs, and compatibility with automated conveyor lines. A powerful compressed wood pallet machine is essential to form these robust pallets.
Automation Levels: Semi-Automatic vs. Fully-Automatic
The production lines can be configured for either semi-automatic or fully-automatic operation. A fully-automatic line uses conveyors and robotic arms for all material handling, offering a fixed production rhythm, reduced labor, and increased reliability.
