A U.S.-based producer of hollow ceramic bricks faced a significant logistics challenge: how to transport their heavy yet fragile products safely and efficiently. They required a custom-designed molded pallet production line to create pallets specifically for this purpose. This case study details the analysis, the recommended pallet design, and the complete semi-automatic production line engineered by our team to meet their unique needs.
Analyzing the Application: The Demands of Brick Logistics
The project began with a detailed analysis of the client’s specific operational requirements for transporting hollow ceramic bricks, which require stable and even support to prevent cracking and breakage during handling and shipping. The key specifications were as follows:
| Specification | Requirement |
| Pallet Size | 1000x1000mm |
| Dynamic Load Capacity | 800 kg (approx. 1760 lbs) |
| Production Target | 400 pallets per 8-hour shift |
| Production Method | Semi-automatic (Manual) Line |
The Key Recommendation: A Flat-Top Pallet Design for Stability
Given the fragile nature of hollow bricks, the pallet’s surface design is critical. While a standard nestable pallet saves space, we strongly recommended a Flat-Top Single-Face Pallet. This design eliminates the surface holes found in nestable pallets, providing a completely flat and uniform surface. This continuous, even surface is crucial for distributing the weight of the stacked bricks uniformly, minimizing stress points and significantly reducing the risk of product damage.
The Engineered Production Line: Configuration for 400 Pallets/Shift
To achieve the target output, a complete semi-automatic line, centered around our high-performance presswood pallet machine, was configured. Our process calculations determined that producing 400 pallets requires approximately 7-8 tons of dried fiber per shift. The necessary equipment includes:
| Component | Model & Details |
|---|---|
| Material Preparation | Wood Chipper (ZKBL216): Initial breakdown of raw materials (4-6 tons/hr). Wood Crusher (ZK1500): Pulverizes chips into fine fibers. Dryer (ZKRD1915): Dries material to the optimal moisture content for stability. |
| Mixing and Molding | Glue Mixers (ZKBJ600): Two units for continuous, consistent blending of fiber and MDI glue. Hydraulic Presses (ZKY32-1250T): Three 1250-ton presses form the core of the line, meeting the output target. Mold Temperature Machines (SEOT-60): Maintains high mold temperature for rapid glue curing. |
