Wood Chip Making Machine for Presswood Pallet Drying Control: Why Uniform Chips Matter

The customer problem: drying energy and moisture variation

A wood chip making machine does not remove moisture by itself. In a presswood pallet line, the upstream chip specification affects how predictably the dryer can bring material into the adhesive process window. Shred is EMP’s fixed electric drum wood chipper for first-stage wood-feed preparation. It produces relatively uniform chips before pulverizing, drying, glue mixing, and molding, while the dryer remains responsible for final moisture control.

Why the wood chip making machine belongs before the dryer

The common alternatives are buying chips, manually sawing and splitting residues, or sending irregular material directly to a dryer or hammer mill. Purchased chips reduce control over supply and incoming moisture. Manual preparation does not create a stable industrial feed. Feeding oversized and mixed pieces directly into drying makes residence time and heat transfer less predictable, while asking a hammer mill to perform every size-reduction step can increase downstream grinding work. Shred addresses the upstream part of this chain with a stationary electric drum wood chipper, hydraulic feeding, upper and lower feed rolls, variable feed speed, a chipping drum with fly knives, and a sizing screen. These features support a more consistent feed to the pulverizer and dryer, but they do not turn Shred into a moisture-control machine.

Structure, parameters, and image evidence

The published range covers three models. X-215 uses a 45 kW main motor, a 400 by 180 mm feed opening, up to 160 mm feed diameter, and 4 to 5 t/h capacity. X-216 uses 55 kW, a 540 by 240 mm opening, up to 200 mm feed diameter, and 6 to 8 t/h. X-218 uses 110 kW, a 680 by 310 mm opening, up to 300 mm feed diameter, and 8 to 12 t/h. The listed chip length is 35 mm, with roller speeds of 590 rpm for X-215 and X-216 and 650 rpm for X-218. The first image shows an industrial wood chipper line with raw-log feed, an inclined discharge conveyor, ducting, and bulk-bag collection. The second image shows guarded infeed conveying and a gear motor. They support the visible material path and line-integration discussion, not claims about moisture, capacity test conditions, or final chip-size distribution. Engineering should confirm total power, screen aperture, knife configuration, metal-removal requirements, and the feedstock basis for capacity.

The final result: a controlled preparation chain, not an isolated promise

The practical result is a coordinated preparation section: screened branches, slabs, small logs, strips, or other approved wood residues enter the wood chip making machine, become a more manageable chip feed, and then move to pulverizing, drying, glue mixing, and molding. Better upstream consistency can help the dryer operate against a narrower material variation, but the final moisture result must be established by the dryer design, heat balance, sensors, residence time, adhesive system, and operating recipe. EMP therefore does not promise a moisture percentage from a stand-alone Shred unit. The correct project brief is chipper plus dryer, with the chip specification and drying target matched to MDI, UF, or another validated adhesive process. This approach can reduce dependence on purchased chips and support a complete wood chip production line without confusing a wood chipping machine with a dryer.

  • Plan the wood chip making machine together with the dryer, glue system, pulverizer, and pallet press
  • Select X-215, X-216, or X-218 from feed opening and tested material conditions, not throughput alone
  • Use uniform upstream chips to support dryer control, while treating final moisture as a dryer and process-control responsibility
  • Confirm metal removal, feedstock cleanliness, screen configuration, total power, and capacity test basis before ordering
