A client in Chicago, Illinois, sought to establish a large-scale molded pallet production facility to meet the diverse needs of the regional market. Their key challenge was the requirement for high-volume output across four different pallet sizes. This case study details the custom-engineered, multi-press production line designed to provide both the capacity and flexibility the client required.
The Challenge: Balancing Versatility and High-Volume Production
The project’s success hinged on designing a system that could efficiently produce a high mix of products without sacrificing daily output. The facility required a production capacity of at least 300 pallets per day for each of the four sizes, for a total minimum output of 1,200 pallets daily, using wood chips and agricultural waste as primary feedstock.
| Required Pallet Specifications |
| 800 x 1000 mm |
| 800 x 1200 mm |
| 1000 x 1200 mm |
| 1100 x 1100 mm |
The Engineered Solution: A 4-Press Line for 1200+ Pallets/Day
To meet the high-capacity target, a robust material preparation system and a multi-press molding core were essential. Our calculations showed that this volume would require processing 30-35 tons of wet raw material every 24 hours. The engineered solution is built around a bank of four parallel hydraulic presses, the core of the compressed wood pallet machine system.
| Component | Details |
|---|---|
| High-Capacity Material Preparation | A heavy-duty Wood Chipper, a powerful Wood Crusher for fine fibers, and a large Industrial Dryer to ensure optimal moisture content for bonding. |
| The Molding Core | Four 1250-ton Hydraulic Presses provide the necessary throughput. This setup allows for ultimate flexibility, as molds can be easily swapped to adapt to changing orders. Two automatic Glue Mixers ensure a continuous supply of blended material. |
| Precision Temperature Control | Each press is paired with its own dedicated Mold Temperature Machine, allowing for independent and precise temperature control, which is critical for quality in a high-mix environment. |
